A motorcyclist was grievously injured in an unusual traffic accident on Tuesday afternoon.

The police said that a 27-year-old man crashed his pickup truck into a traffic light on Aviation Avenue, Luqa, at around 9.45am.

A 50-year-old motorcyclist then fell as he tried to avoid hitting the damaged traffic light pole, which had ended up on the road. The man was driving a Honda CB600 motorbike.

He was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

The police are investigating.
