President George Vella meets with PN Leader, Parliamentary Group

Leader of the Opposition Adrian Delia, along with the Parliamentary group from the Opposition’s side, met President George Vella at The Palace, Valletta, on Monday afternoon. 

On behalf of all the parliamentary group present, the Leader of the Opposition formally congratulated George Vella on his inauguration as President. 

Delia mentioned the planned constitutional reform, which may well bring about a redefinition of the role of President. He continued to say how he enjoyed listening to the President’s inaugural speech and the main themes espoused. 

He continued to delineate the importance the Opposition places on education, and mentioned the importance of tending to vulnerable groups in society. 

On his part, President Vella maintained the necessity of maintaining and strengthening existing contacts with all interlocutors. He promised he will reciprocate the trust shown in him, and reiterated the imperative of the role of head of state in bringing people together. 

Apart from the obligation to carry out mature debates, the President referred to the need to keep an international perspective, mentioning the deteriorating situation in Libya by way of example.
