Updated - EP, local council elections: Early voting sees more than 50% of votes cast by 2pm

The European Parliament and local council elections will be held on 25 May, but hundreds will be casting their preferences today, in what is known as an early voting exercise organised by the Electoral Commission.

This possibility is made available to people who will be abroad or in hospital on election day, as well as homes for elderly people.

Voters registered in Malta have started to cast their vote at the Vote Counting Complex at Naxxar while those registered under Gozo are voting at the Government Experimental Farm, Imġarr Road, Xewkija.

Voting is also taking place at St Vincent de Paule home for the elderly as well as in 31 homes for the elderly in Malta and Gozo.

There will also be another day of early voting on 23 May, this time at Mater Dei Hospital, Karin Grech Hospital and Gozo General Hospital.

Approximate percentage voting turnout up to 2.00 pm

The Electoral Commission said the following approximate percentage voting turnout up to 2.00 pm in the European Parliament Election of today Saturday, 18th May, 2019 are:

Registered voters:       7371

Votes cast:                  3868

Approximate percentage:    52%

 

Local Council Elections – 18 May, 2019

Approximate percentage voting turnout up to 2.00 pm

The Electoral Commission said the following approximate percentage voting turnout up to 2.00 pm in the Local Council Elections of today Saturday, 18th May, 2019 are:

Registered voters:       7301

Votes cast:                  3888

 

Approximate percentage:    53%
