Saturday, 19 June 2021, 10:53 Last update: about 4 years ago

No new Covid-19 cases were registered on Friday, the fourth time it happened in the last week, Health Minister Chris Fearne said.

Speaking on One Radio, Fearne said that 80 per cent of adults would have received at least one dose of the vaccination by Sunday, which would mean that the target set by the government two weeks ago has now been reached.

Fearne had told The Malta Independent on Sunday that after reaching herd immunity at 70 per cent, the government was attempting to go beyond 80 per cent. That target will be reached on Sunday.

Authorities had announced no new cases on Thursday, Tuesday and Sunday, making today’s zero cases the fourth time in seven days that no new cases were reported.

No Covid-19 patients are in hospital.

In all, 621,674 vaccination doses have been administered, of which 350,092 were first doses.

The total number of cases remains 30,588, with three recoveries reported on Saturday for a total of 30,139.

There are 29 active cases while 420 people have died with Covid.

The number of swab tests carried out on Fridat was 1,660, for a total of 963,044.
