Saturday, 13 January 2024, 08:50 Last update: about 5 months ago

A Colombian woman was stabbed to death in Sliema on Saturday, the police said.

The incident took place in an apartment in Sir George Borg Street.

A spokesman for the police said that at 6.15am, a man of Colombian nationality went to the Sliema police station to report that he had killed a person.

At the apartment, officers found a dead woman, face up, on a bed.

The woman, named as Sandra Ramirez, aged 43 from Colombia, had suffered multiple stab wounds, the spokesman said.

It is apparent that the man and the woman had an argument which escalated, he added.

The suspect, also aged 43, was arrested and is being held for questioning.

The police spokesman said that investigations are still ongoing and it is still too early to say whether the man will be accused of femicide.

The relationship between the two persons is still being investigated. Neither is it yet known so far how long they have been living in Malta, whether they both lived in the same apartment where the woman was found murdered, and what kind of job they had.

He later said that neither the woman nor the man had filed any complaints about each other with the police.

Magistrate Lara Lanfranco is leading an inquiry.

This is the second murder of 2024.

On New Year's Day, Eric Borg was shot dead in Rabat.

Noel Azzopardi was later charged with the murder, and was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty.
