A man was killed in Rabat on New Year’s Day, the police said Monday.
The victim is a 27-year-old man from Rabat, and he died of injuries after he was shot following an argument with another man, a police spokesman told the media.
He was later named as Eric Borg.
The spokesman said that two shots were fired, and that the man died at the scene of the crime.
The police had been informed that a man was lying on the ground on Triq Fidloqqom, in the area of Nigret, at around 3.30pm.
The police mounted a search for the suspect, who escaped from the scene. He was arrested some time later.
The police did not give details regarding the arrested man. "Witnesses have been tracked down and the police are looking through CCTV footage to understand whether the aggressor fled the site on foot or in a vehicle," the spokesman had said earlier.
It is understood that no other people were involved.
The area where the murder took place has been cordoned off by police officers.
Magistrate Charmaine Galea is leading an inquiry.
