An exhibition of works by G. Luigi Rossi is currently running at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta following a delightful inaugural evening held on Friday, 15 December.

Themed HUMAN[KIND], the collection is the fruit of the artist's deep introspective journey into the human state of being, where the artist's touch reflects his personal insight into the shared characteristics, experiences, and common identity that result from the human condition and the coming together within society.

In his opening speech, G. Luigi Rossi dwelled on the profound human connections that intricately shaped the exhibition. From the initial sparks of artistic inspiration, to the difficult and arduous journey as an artist since his first public exhibition in Malta in 2016, and the meticulous logistics required to bring his vision to life, Rossi highlighted the collaborative effort and shared enthusiasm that brought HUMAN[KIND] to life.

Emphasising the significance of these connections, and the huge amount of work carried out with the support of those people who truly believe in Rossi's art, the artist not only celebrated the analytical creativity at play but also invited the audience to appreciate the intricate web of relationships that breathed life into the exhibition, fostering a deeper understanding of the interplay between artistic vision and the collaborative spirit of those involved.

Highly evocative and leaving no doubt about the strong inspiration behind every piece on display, Rossi's paintings, in their colourful largesse, reflect the magnitude of the experience without appearing daunting to the audience. The art on display, thoughtfully positioned within the setting of Spazju Kreattiv, creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages the viewers to engage with Rossi's art. The arrangement allows for a seamless integration of the art into the space, fostering a sense of accessibility and connection, cultivating a welcoming environment that enhances the overall experience of the exhibition.

Speaking about Rossi's work, curator Louis Lagana commented: "Rossi's exploration of colours isn't just about aesthetics but also about invoking emotional responses and connections to history and personal experiences. Overall, G. Luigi Rossi's art seems to offer a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant experience, touching on various societal issues while inviting contemplation and reflection on the human condition. 'HUMAN[KIND]' transcends boundaries, inviting reflection on our shared journey, collective resilience, and the profound beauty found within the tapestry of human existence."

Biography

Born in North Italy in 1964, G. Luigi Rossi is a distinguished artist whose upbringing in both Italy and Germany has significantly shaped his artistic journey. The fusion of Italian and German influences in his family background has contributed to the richness and diversity evident in his artistic expressions.

Rossi's childhood was marked by a unique duality of experiences. Spending summers close to the sea and winters in the forests, he developed a profound connection with nature that would later become a central theme in his artistic endeavours. The beauty of the Black Forest and the time spent at sea in a small village near Genoa, left an indelible mark on Rossi, inspiring him to explore the colours of nature and capture the aura of landscapes in his art. In his early childhood, the moon landing, the era of technological and digital growth, and the historic fall of the Berlin Wall left a lasting impression on him. These events sparked his curiosity about the world and its transformative potential.

An integral figure in Rossi's upbringing was his German grandmother, whose kind discipline played a pivotal role in shaping his character and artistic vision. Her influence instilled in Rossi a commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and beauty through persistence and dedication. Navigating through various challenges, Rossi's unique upbringing allowed him to build a perspective as an outsider. While this sometimes posed challenges in being understood, it provided him with the invaluable ability to consider different viewpoints and immerse himself in diverse lifestyles.

Living and studying in Freiburg i.Br. (Germany) and Boulder, Colorado (U.S.), Rossi's exposure to different cultures further enriched his artistic vision. Throughout his artistic journey, Rossi's commitment to exploring the human experience and its intricacies is evident. Settling in Malta later in life, he dedicated his work to bringing his vision to life, creating art that resonates with the issues of humanity and seeks tranquillity in a chaotic world. Inspired by literary giants such as Isaac Asimov, Rossi delves into futuristic themes, gaining inspiration from artists who foresaw the evolving complexities of the human condition.
