Tune into a night of jazz

Sunday, 17 March 2024, 09:00 Last update: about 3 months ago

Following last January's successful concert by pianist Frank Bonnici and friends, Frank is returning to Malta from Prague to play, together with a double bass musician and percussions, for another concert at the elegant Sala dei Cavalieri, Palazzo de la Salle, Valletta. The concert will take place on 20 March.
Speaking about the forthcoming concert Frank said: "This time, we are doing another film prologue. It will be jazz music dating back to the 20th century. During the first half hour we will be playing works by various composers. This will be followed by progressive jazz from the 21st century. All in all, the programme will be a mixture of styles - jazz and Latin jazz."

Frank, who is not only a pianist but also a composer, will perform A Night in Branik, a composition he created for a film which Jacob Zahradnik directed, Piano Crossroads, which was filmed in Prague. "After Covid 19, like everywhere else Prague was a disaster. No theatres, no clubs and nowhere to go. The film is about five pianists, one of them myself, filmed in different locations, without an audience. I was lucky as I was filmed before Covid 19 and had an audience. This film is at present showing around Prague. Do come and enjoy the music."

Tickets for the concert are available from ticketline.com.mt.  Doors will open from 7pm. There are only 50 seats in the Sala dei Cavalieri.
