Difeza Farrugia, 46, from Valletta, was arrested along with an Englishman and two Italians. Their scam was a classic in gambling circles.

They sat around the roulette table and one of them distracted the casino employee when the ball landed on a winning number. One of the other men then shoved a number of chips onto the winning number’s position on the table.

They would have got away with it except for one very important aspect they did not cover – CCTV cameras caught them.

The police then reviewed footage and identified the car the men got into after their “win”. They were tracked down and questioned. They are due to appear in court in the coming days.
