The government is not considering any proposals in this regard. On the other hand, the Animal Welfare Council is working on regulations against cruelty to animals.
These initial ideas have not even been discussed by the council, which includes representatives from organisations such as the Malta Racing Club, but once they have, they will be put forward for public consultation purposes. Following this, the council will make its recommendations to the government.
The DOI statement said that the government is not bound to accept the proposals made by the council and there is therefore no cause for alarm, it
concluded.
