The conference featured youth socialist candidates running for the European Parliament elections on 12 June. The local delegation includes Malta Labour Party youth contestants Owen Bonnici, Robert Micallef and Joseph Muscat.

Among other issues, the conference discussed the importance of the European Constitution particularly in terms of promoting a single voice on international issues and the need to fortify trade unions who, together with socialist parties, are able to further the workers’ interests.

European Socialist Parties secretary general Ton Beumer, Socialist Parliamentary Groups’ president Baron Crespo and Denmark’s ex-prime minister, Paul Rasmussen, were among the personalities that addressed the conference.
