The sand – 7,000 tonnes in total – is being imported to turn the bay in a swimming zone. The existing bay, as well as 25 metres of the sea, will now have sand.
The second and final consignment left Jordan today and is expected to arrive in Malta next week.
The cost of the sand and its transportation is expected to cost around Lm200,000, while the total cost of the embellishment project is expected to reach Lm550,000.
The whole project will include a new sewerage system, the construction of a promenade, a new rainwater control system and the overall embellishment of the area.
