MLP Announces its ‘first 100 days pledge’

Malta Independent Thursday, 20 May 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Dr Sant made this pledge during a visit to a new garden and playground which the council inaugurated yesterday.

Dr Sant said that although the Qormi council had Lm17,000 removed from its budget by the government, it still managed to complete 92 per cent of the projects it had outlined. Dr Sant said: “This is a phenomenal record by any standard. Dr Sant said that in its term in office, the Qormi council had completed the resurfacing and embellishment of 51 roads, about a quarter of the total amount of roads in the locality.

Dr Sant said the garden, named after Tumas Fenech, was an example of the sterling work carried out by the Qormi local council.

Dr Sant said that there were a number of other gardens which had been opened in the locality, as well as other projects that were still underway.

He said that under the governance of this council, no less than 600 trees had been planted, the bulky refuse service had been improved and regular clean-ups were carried out.

Dr Sant continued: “However, there are still parts of the town that were damaged in the 2003 floods and the council has not found cooperation from the government to carry out repairs.”

Dr Sant said that the MLP’s message for the local council elections was that “we are going to make a difference by improving the standard of living and the environment”.
