Exhibition By Joseph Agius

Malta Independent Saturday, 22 May 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

The exhibition will be officially inaugurated at 8pm on 4 June by Arnold Cassola.

When one enters The Maze, one sees through the artist’s eyes as he transforms common household objects to convey different states of mind.

As in his previous exhibitions, the artist continues to draw upon experiences from his everyday life, particularly his observations of life at the hospital where he works.

Various exhibits are also full of personal memorabilia. For example, the exhibit Cold Turkey is the portrayal of a person experiencing withdrawal symptoms when trying to get off hard drugs – a subject hardly touched upon until now in the local visual arts scene.

Agius’s current work shows a growing maturity and sensibility enmeshed with a keen eye for harmony in the design and texture, and the restrained and simple use of colour in his work.
