The minister visited the site to follow the project’s progress. The aim of the project is to modernise this beach which is popular with the Maltese and tourists, said Mr Zammit.

He explained the enhancement of St Thomas Bay’s promenade includes paving, decoration and other structural works. A wave deflector was built on the jetty to be used by fishermen when the project is finished, continued the minister. All the works at St Thomas Bay are being carried out by Public Works employees, he said.

Mr Zammit said the government is aiming to give the south of Malta more importance and, after discussions with the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, plans for the embellishment of Xghajra bay and Belveder in Wied iz-Zurrieq are in the pipeline.

The main aim of these projects is to modernise localities popular with tourists. The minister spoke of projects that were completed this year and those still in progress. The three main projects currently being carried out are in Mdina, Paceville and Dahlet il-Gzejjer in Bugibba. The total amount of money invested in these three projects is expected to reach Lm3m, concluded Mr Zammit.
