The objectives of the institute include: to study, research and promote procedures for the management of disputes through the use of arbitration; to promote the case for arbitration and the profession of arbitrators within the context of Maltese law; to promote the highest standards of integrity, competence, honour and character among those engaged in arbitration; to secure the acceptance of and adherence to the code of professional responsibility; to provide continuing professional education of a level acceptable to the Malta Arbitration Centre to satisfy fully or partially the yearly number of hours required; to be proactive through media and press coverage in promoting with the general public the benefits of resorting to an alternative means of dispute resolution; to liaise with the various different professions to which the Malta Arbitration Centre panel members belong, with a view to finding mutual interests and to seek overseas affiliations with professional bodies. The founding members present at the EGM agreed on a statute and elected the first committee.
The institute will ensure that its members will at all times act with the highest integrity and strive to promote the case for arbitration with the general public as a more efficient mode of dispute resolution.
