Malta Labour Party Leader insists pensions will be reduced

Malta Independent Friday, 28 May 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Addressing people attending a social activity in Mellieha, Dr Sant said that the MLP had nothing to hide from the people, and treated all citizens with the utmost responsibility.

The MLP had always told the truth and will continue doing so as it was the only way with which it will protect the interests of Maltese and Gozitan families.

The MLP will do its utmost to protect the welfare state as best as it could.

It was the MLP which, last year, had warned several companies about the dangers that they were about to face.

What had happened proved the MLP right.

Now the party was warning the people that the government intended to reduce the pensions and increase retirement age.

Dr Sant said that the MLP had come out with the proof of what it was saying by publishing the World Bank report about the reforms in pensions, built on proposals made by the government.

He added that the Nationalists were deceiving the people and the MLP will have more chances to shed light on this deceit.
