Speaking during an interview on RTK radio, which was recorded yesterday and will be aired this morning, Dr Sant said the Labour Party will not change the pension system. He said that in order to make it sustainable, a Labour government would decrease its operating costs.
Replying to questions from Matthew Xuereb of The Malta Independent, and Mario Micallef, from RTK Radio, Dr Sant also questioned why the report on pensions compiled by the World Bank was not made public before.
During the interview, Dr Sant talked about several other topics, including the Party’s lack of participation on the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development. He said the law did not give the Opposition the right to participate. Asked whether the Party would participate if the law was changed, Dr Sant said the new situation will have to be evaluated at that point. Dr Sant reiterated that the MLP had by far the best team for the forthcoming European Parliament and local council elections. On the local council election, Dr Sant said councils with an MLP majority delivered 81 per cent of the promises made three years ago while PN-led councils delivered just over half.
The full interview, which was presented by Josef Bonello, may be followed today between 10am and 12 noon on RTK, 103 FM.
