In a judicial protest filed yesterday against the prime minister, the deputy prime minister and the lands director, J & C Properties Ltd said it had been given Lm8,400 in compensation for 4,818 square metres of land. The company had refused the original sum offered, which was Lm5,000.

Architect Paul Camilleri estimated the land’s value at Lm125,000. Therefore, J & C Properties claim that the compensation given breached its constitutional rights, especially considering the company no longer has the right to appeal against this decision.

The company is demanding the right to appeal against the decision taken regarding the amount of money due as well as asking to be given compensation according to the market value of the property in question.

The protest was filed in the First Hall of the Civil Court by Dr Edward Debono and Dr Rowena Grima.
