The Malta Labour Party’s success in last Saturday’s election was greeted with satisfaction and all the members congratulated MLP leader Alfred Sant. A statement issued yesterday by the party said that the MLP had obtained a very good result, compared to other EU states.
Dr Vella gave a rundown of the MLP’s campaign for the EP election and gave information on the three MLP candidates elected. The statement noted that the Labour delegation within the PES will be of average size, despite the fact that Malta has one of the smallest representations in the parliament. During yesterday’s meeting Philip Codery, the international secretary of the French socialist party, was elected as the new secretary-general of PES.
