The socialist leaders attending the meeting agreed on the plan of action for the next five years that aims to encourage job creation and welfare awareness.

The appointment of the new European Commission president and the new European Parliament president were also discussed at yesterday’s meeting. On 6 July the PES will nominate a socialist to run for EP president and the day before, 5 July, the party will decide who will be its own president.

Spanish Prime Minister Josè Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has invited Dr Sant to a summit to be held in Madrid later this year.
