An Anthology of Maltese historical events

Malta Independent Saturday, 19 June 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

A nation’s history is made by its people, who are the centre of the events that take place around them. Each event has a date and important dates are supported by a sequence of events. This book is simply a compilation of 100 dates and events chosen from the many in Malta’s history.

The historical events contained in the book are presented to the reader in chronological order according to day and month, but not necessarily according to the year in which they occurred.

This compendium of the events that shaped our country as we know it includes a number of brief accounts about interesting episodes and occurrences such as the institution of the Malta Police Corps, Garibaldi’s visit to Malta, the end of the Great Siege, the inauguration of the Teatro Reale and the Malta Railway and other happenings that have remained to some extent covered by the sands of time.

In the author’s own words: “This is a compilation dealing with various subjects that are somehow or another related to Malta’s history. I consider this anthology to be like a collection of many little pictures that remind one of particular dates, which in turn are connected to particular happenings; little, colourful pictures that in their totality serve to compose an even larger mosaic.”

Written in Maltese, Malta – Grajjiet Storici can be purchased from all leading bookshops.
