This process will see the election of 140 councillors, 115 in Malta and 25 in Gozo. The Nationalist Party is fielded 125 people, the Malta Labour Party had 97 people contesting the election on its behalf while Alternattiva Demokratika, The Green Party, is fielded three candidates.

The localities which electing their representatives are: Attard, Vittoriosa, Birzebbuga, Floriana, Gharghur, Gzira, Hamrun, Kercem, Luqa, Marsaxlokk, Mosta, Munxar, Paola, Qala, Qormi, Safi, San Lawrenz, Santa Lucia, Siggiewi, Swieqi, Xaghra and Zebbug (Gozo).

According to the electoral commission, the counting of votes is expected to be concluded later today or tomorrow morning.
