Tickets for this event were sold out in the first couple of days that the box office was open and the cinema was packed to maximum capacity with 700 people attending this premiere.

While people congregated outside cinema 16, they were kept entertained by the Grecian looking human statues and extras from the film donned their costumes selling programmes and interacting with the audience. International TV stations and press were also present to cover the event.

Under the patronage of the President of Malta and Mrs Fenech Adami, this event was held in aid of the SPCA for which cause Lm2,800 were raised. The huge turn out reflects the growing awareness and concern for poorly treated animals.

A raffle was also held before the film to win a bronze statue from the set of Troy and allowed the SPCA to raise a little more money.

After watching the epic film, guests made their way to the InterContinental Malta where a reception was held at the Cettina De Cesare hall. Guests stayed until the early hours of the morning then moving off to the Carissa lounge bar at the hotel for a nightcap.

Ian De Cesare, managing director of the Eden Leisure Group stated: “We are proud to have made cinema 16 available for the premiere of Troy, to help raise money for the SPCA. This cinema is the very cinema in which Brad Pitt himself watched a movie while in Malta shooting Troy which makes it all the more appropriate that his movie should be seen here for the first time.”
