Man Remanded in custody for theft

Malta Independent Thursday, 1 July 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

Joseph Camilleri, 32, was charged with the theft, with receiving stolen goods and with relapsing in view of previous convictions.

He is currently serving a jail term handed down just last week. Presiding magistrate Lawrence Quintano told the man, “I want to see you reform”. Dr Quintano said the court had shown him clemency and he should therefore grab the opportunity to get back on track.

After hearing the man’s plea, the magistrate recommended the prison authorities to continue giving him chances to reform. He must be given all the help he needs, he said. Magistrate Quintano continued by telling Camilleri that the court is sticking up for him and allowing him to turn over a new leaf.

Inspector Carmelo Magri prosecuted.
