It is understood that the armed robbery took place at about 10.30am in Freedom Avenue, Zebbug, when two armed and masked robbers cornered two Toyota employees who were about to deposit company takings.
They demanded that the two men hand over the sack of money, which they did. Police believe the two men had shotguns. They then ran off to a getaway car and made off with about Lm20,000 in cash and cheques.
Police were quickly called to the scene and secured it for forensic examination.
Duty magistrate Anthony Vella was informed of the robbery and appointed a number of experts to assist in drawing up an on-site inquiry. Zebbug and Criminal Investigation Department police are investigating.
