The FOI said it had been stressing the importance of having a senior Cabinet minister directly responsible for the manufacturing industry and related services for some time.

The FOI said that through this appointment, it felt the government was sending a clear message that it considered industry to be of major importance to the Maltese economy, especially in generating employment.

The FOI congratulated Dr Gatt and said it looked forward to cooperating with the Industry Ministry in its work.
