Man Fined Lm60 for causing traffic accident

Malta Independent Thursday, 8 July 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Anglu Seychell, 67, from Zejtun, was found guilty of driving recklessly in Triq tal-Barrani in Ghaxaq. The court heard how he crashed into another car being driven by Josianne Carabott, who was at the traffic lights. Ms Carabott told the court that she had seen the accused approaching her car without reducing speed and in fact she had tried to lessen the impact by driving forward. But the two cars still collided and Lorenza Seychell had to be rushed to hospital and treated for the serious injuries she sustained.

Explaining the sequence of events, Mr Seychell said Ms Carabott reversed while he was at the traffic lights and the two cars collided. However, the court said it did not believe his version since it could not be understood how Ms Carabott’s car had moved six metres forward if she had reversed into his car.

In a separate court case, Ms Carabott was cleared of driving recklessly because she was not to blame for the traffic accident in which her car and that of Mr Seychell collided.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti presided over the court.
