M. Demajo (Wines & Spirits) Ltd managing director Anthony Miceli Demajo introduced this year’s Bailey’s Woman of the Year Award in the Grand Ballroom of the Radisson SAS Baypoint Resort. He praised his team for managing to raise the event to new heights this year.

The scope of this award is to select a local female personality who, in the panel’s and public’s opinion, best represents the Bailey’s core values of sensuality, conviviality and indulgence.

The woman chosen has to be Maltese and made a contribution to Maltese society. Last year it was won by Christine Debono, the well known fundraiser for The Little Sisters of the Poor. For two successive years the award was organised with The Circle magazine. An excellent dinner during which Vouvrey Blanc and Syrah flowed, was enjoyed by many personalities, including the four finalists for the award – Doris Cusens, Marlene Mizzi, Andrea Cassar and Monica Attard.

There was some suspense before the winner, Doris Cusens, was announced. Mrs Cusens, who was accompanied by her husband Tom, showed great emotion and appreciation when the announcement was made. Mr Miceli Demajo presented her with the uniquely commissioned trophy hand-crafted by Mdina Glass, together with a monetary gift which Mrs Cusens will be donating to Dar Merhba Bik and the YMCA.

Mrs Cusens started the keep fit movement in Malta and is well known in the world of philanthrophy.

A small replica of the Baileys logo “Swirl” trophy was given to the three finalists to thank them for their participation.

Ms A. Cacciatolo, who correctly guessed the winning candidate and created the best Baileys slogan “Women love Bailey’s because... it leaves you with a taste of wanting more”, won a luxury cruise for two in the Mediterranean.

Many glasses of Baileys on ice were consumed at this convivial and well-organised evening.
