Mario Mallia, 55 from Bugibba and 24-year-old Charmaine Bartolo from St Paul’s Bay, pleaded not guilty to assaulting two doctors and slightly injuring them in the Accident and Emergency Department of St Luke’s Hospital.

Mr Mallia was accused of violently assaulting and slightly injuring Dr Stephen Muscat, while Ms Bartolo was charged with attacking and slightly injuring Dr Julie Galea. Both were accused of breaching the peace in the hospital at around 1.10am on Thursday.

The court, presided over by magistrate Denis Montebello, granted Mr Mallia bail against a Lm300 personal guarantee. Ms Bartolo was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm100.

Inspector Roland Cassar prosecuted while Dr Mario de Marco appeared for the accused.
