Irish Man blames Sliema local council for broken leg

Malta Independent Monday, 12 July 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Anthony Gogarty arrived in Malta on 18 June for a holiday. The following day he fell and broke his leg when the corner of the pavement on which he was walking, in Triq il-Madonna tas-Sacro Cuor, gave way.

He spent his two-week holiday with his leg in plaster and had to take the risk of undergoing an operation.

The man claimed the council was indifferent and did not keep the locality’s pavements well maintained. Mr Gogarty said he suffered as a result of the council’s indifference.

The injuries he incurred not only ruined his holiday, but also gave him an added financial burden. Mr Gogarty is holding the council responsible for the damage he suffered, both financial and physical.

The protest was filed yesterday by Dr Ruth Scott.
