Leling Uwe, 45, was granted bail after being charged with damaging tuna cages to the detriment of Melita Tuna Ltd last Thursday.

Dr George Said and Dr Edward Zammit Lewis appeared for Captain Uwe. Dr Said explained that the incident occurred off Delimara when the TMM Oaxaca collided with a fish farm being towed by a tug-boat owned by Melita Tuna Ltd.

Presiding magistrate Giovanni Grixti granted Captain Uwe bail against a Lm10,000 personal guarantee. Inspector J.J. Fenech prosecuted while Dr Beppe Fenech Adami appeared parte civile for Melita Tuna Ltd.
