Anyone over the age of 14 had the opportunity to explore the seabed with professional trainers at Ta’ Fra Ben for a mere Lm3.50 donation. This was the sixth time the event Try A Dive for Charity has been held.
One of the organisers explained that anyone wishing to take part was checked by the team of
doctors on site and then given basic diving knowledge by the
instructors.
The participants were briefed on the sign language used underwater and on what and what not to do. Youths under 18 years of age were made to get parental consent.
“Usually people who have never tried scuba-diving take this opportunity to experience something new,” the organiser said. In fact, everyone coming up from the dive looked very pleased and excited.
Those who never dived before were taken on a 15-minute dive whereas experienced divers enjoyed a longer dive in deeper waters.
The Malta Maritime Authority lent its support by cordoning off the area where the event took place. The authority was one of the main sponsors, together with Mares, Farsons, Subway diving school, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority and White Bros. Other diving schools such as Dive Systems and Scubatech also supported the event.
