Speaking in Birzebbuga yesterday evening, Dr Sant said that during the past weeks, Dr Gonzi showed the electorate that he was still keeping the truth away from people and was taking decisions without consultation and without taking into consideration what people wanted.

Dr Sant mentioned the purchase of the Malta embassy in Brussels that cost the government Lm10 million. He said this story had “shocked the nation”, adding that while telling people not to live beyond their means, the government spent so much on one building which not even richer countries would have ever dreamed of purchasing.

Dr Sant said this showed how the government was taking other decisions, including the one on the introduction of new taxes. He mentioned, as an example, the eco-tax and how this was introduced. He said that even those people who are usually close to the PN government did not agree with how it was introduced.

He said the majority of people have understood that it is not true that the tax was introduced to protect the environment because not even environmental non-government organisations were consulted about it.

Dr Sant said that while for some things the government was using as much money as it wanted from the citizens’ taxes, the government was not willing to spend money on things which were essential for the country and its people. He mentioned, as examples, how the country’s hospitals lack bandages and surgical gloves.

Concluding, Dr Sant said that the Malta Labour Party will continue saying the truth about what is really happening in Malta and will continue keeping the Maltese people up-to-date with things that are never mentioned by the PN government.
