The meeting will be held at the Malta Freeport in Birzebbuga at 8.45am. Speaking to The Malta Independent, UHM assistant secretary-general Joe Grillo said the meeting is being held to inform the employees about the latest developments in the negotiations that will eventually lead to an accord on the new collective agreement.

He said that following the meeting the UHM had with the Malta Freeport management on Tuesday, the chairman of the Malta Freeport, as promised, sent the union the company’s counter proposals. Details of these proposals cannot be disclosed in view of the stage of the process of the negotiations.

The collective agreement being discussed will cover 300 employees in the operations department and around 80 employees in the engineering department.

An agreement is likely to be reached because the two parties came closer to each other’s initial positions.
