The accused, 28, from Zabbar, was charged with detaining the 12-year-old against her will and forcing her into sexual acts.

He was also accused of corrupting the two siblings, threatening them, attempting to indecently and violently assault the mother and her children and offending public morals.

Further charges included having an unlicensed dagger and knife in his possession and driving without a licence and insurance cover.

The court, presided over by magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera, ordered that the accused be held on remand.

Police inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted while Dr Jose Herrera and Dr Roberto Montalto appeared for the defence.
