The Faenol Festival – once voted The Greatest Show In Wales at the Welsh Tourism Awards – is now in its fifth year.
It attracts more than 20,000 people to the Faenol Estate at the foot of Mount Snowdon in Gwynedd each year and among this year’s guests are Jamie Cullum, Jools Holland and Welsh star Dafydd Iwan.
The last time Terfel and Calleja performed together at Hampton Court, near London, they ate lamb chops and watched Euro 2004 in the dressing room before, wrote Hannah Thomas-Peter on The Western Mail.
Speaking of the similarities between Malta and Wales he said: “We are both small nations fiercely patriotic, who speak a strange language nobody else understands!
“It’s a different mentality in a small place. In Malta we take family and entertainment very seriously. From what I’ve experienced it’s the same in Wales.”
He however comes across as a completely untypical opera singer. He spoke at length and with warmth about his baby daughter Clara and he admitted that as a teenager he listened to Metallica and Pearl Jam.
