A 48-year-old Ukrainian diver tragically died while diving off the coast of Sliema, near the Exiles area, after experiencing difficulties underwater, TVM reports.

Emergency services, including the Police, a medical team, and members of the Civil Protection Department, were called to the scene at approximately 2:20pm  following a request for assistance.

Despite efforts, the diver was pulled from the water and certified dead at the scene. The incident unfolded in the presence of the victim's wife., TVM said.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud has opened an inquiry into the case and appointed a team of experts to assist. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
