Gilbert Degabriele, 20, from Fgura was accused of stealing Lm10 and three mobile phones in Fgura at around on 10 September.

He was also charged with driving a vehicle recklessly – in the wrong direction down a one-way street at excessive speed, without being in possession of a driving licence or insurance, and with breaching the conditions of a probation order.

Presiding magistrate Lawrence Quintano granted the accused bail against a Lm2,000 personal guarantee. Inspector Malcolm Spiteri prosecuted and Dr Roberto Montalto and Dr Jose Herrera appeared for Degabriele.
