A flag-bearer from each member country was also invited to take part. Lieutenant Mark Mallia AFM (flag-bearer and officer-in-charge AFM team), Sergeant Charles Mizzi (bass tuba player), Sergeant Martin Vella (baritone/euphonium player) and Gunner Jesmond Fenech (B-flat clarinet player) were the four members representing Malta.

Each show consisted of marching displays by many different bands and a finale that saw all the bands performing together in front of an audience of 4,000.

A total of 10 shows were performed.

The European Union Band, consisting of members from many different countries and therefore many different drill techniques, managed to produce a very good uniformed marching display that was much enjoyed by the audience.

The band, which was the highlight of the show and always the last to perform, played pieces such as European Opening, Bruxelles, Marching Europeans, The Longest Day, Highland Cathedral and Europasterne.

During the performances, all the flag-bearers, under the words of command of Lt Mallia (who was appointed as officer-in-charge, all bearers) appeared on a balcony above the main entrance, bearing their respective national colours.

Lt Mallia was also occasionally given the task of bearing the European Union flag.

Her Majesty the Queen of Holland and other senior state officials were part of the audience. This was a great event and experience for the AFM team, and one which gave them the opportunity of seeing different cultures, beliefs, drill procedures, learning techniques and ideas coming together to produce one coherent team.
