Grima wrote that the decision was a result of pressure made by Opposition Leader Alex Borg with this newspaper.

The Malta Independent categorically denies Grima's statement.

The decision was based on editorial considerations, which take place on a regular basis.

When communicating this decision to Grima this morning, The Malta Independent thanked Grima "for the many years during which you have contributed to the newspaper, first as its editor and later as a contributor.
