At this meeting, Dr Frendo and Mr Ben Yahia discussed topics of bilateral interest to both countries, including the crisis of illegal immigration and the Euro-Med process. They also discussed the meeting in Malta of the Malta-Tunisia Joint Commission, to be held towards the end of the year.

Other meetings Dr Frendo had in New York, where he was accompanying Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, included one with US Under Secretary of State for Non-Proliferation John Bolton, members of the American Jewish Community and members of the Maltese community resident in New York state.

During his three-day stay, Dr Frendo also participated in the EU foreign ministers meeting with the Russian Foreign Affairs Minister, the Commonwealth foreign ministers meeting which also discussed the Common-wealth heads of government meeting to be held in Malta in November 2005, the Commonwealth ministerial action group (CMAG) and a ministerial meeting to discuss a comprehensive test ban treaty.
