It has been described in the foreign press as “one of the most hilarious plays ever written” (Bolton Evening News).

The play centres on Eddie, a stationery salesman with a flash car who likes to believe he is hip and trendy despite still living with his mother, and Crystal, a casino croupier with more than a hint of spontaneous wildness about her.

By a quirk of dating fate they end up spending a damp weekend at a particularly shabby seaside hotel. Although there is initially a considerable distance between the two, you could still cut the sexual tension with a knife as their on-and-off-again (no connection with Julie and Ludwig) romantic weekend goes through all the stages of most normal relationships in just 48 hours.

Kissing Sid James stars Julia Calvert as Crystal and John Montanaro as Eddie. With just two actors in the play there is tremendous room for character development and we get to see a variety of sides to both Eddie and Crystal, ranging from shy and nervous, to wild and wacky and to totally and utterly inebriated.

Kissing Sid James is directed by James Calvert and will be staged at the Manoel Theatre on 8, 9 and 10 October. Kissing Sid James is certified 18.
