Winnie Wanjiku Kanmaz, 32, was due to stand trial, but chose to plead guilty instead. She admitted conspiring to traffic drugs on 10 November 2003 and in the two months prior. She also imported heroin in the same period of time. The drugs were found in circumstances suggesting they were not for her personal use.
Presiding judge Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono sent the woman to prison for nine years for the crime she admitted. Dr Joe Mifsud appeared for Kanmaz while Senior Counsel to the Republic Mark Said prosecuted.
