The Monaco World Summit Globalisation and Development has been organised in association with the World Tourism Organisation (United Nations) and Airports Council International (ACI) and will be held in Monte Carlo at the end of this month.

Prominent speakers at the meeting will include Brazilian Tourism Minister Walfrido Dos Mares Guia, Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, Belgian European and Foreign Affairs Secretary of State Frederique Ries, Egyptian Tourism Minister Mamdouh El Beltagui, and Slovakian Environment Minister Laszlo Miklos.

Topics for discussion include:

• tourism and global strategies;

• food industry and food security: a major challenge;

• expansion of Europe and the Mediterranean;

• a major challenge for the environment: waste management and

• prospects for peace, security and development.

Dr Pullicino Orlando is a Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a post he has held since January 2004.
