The boat was heading in a northerly direction towards Malta. The boat ran out of fuel and was towed to shore by the AFM patrol boat.
The 26 illegal migrants, six of whom are women, said they were from Somalia and that they had departed from Libya, the AFM said.
They were towed to the AFM Maritime Squadron headquarters at Haywharf, and were handed over to the police for investigation.
