The young man, Nicholas Vella from Pembroke, was allegedly apprehended in Msida last Wednesday and found to be in possession of 400 ecstasy pills and traces of heroin. The man was also charged with being in possession of these drugs in an area frequented by youths.
After a long discussion on whether to release the accused on bail, presiding magistrate Abigail Lofaro chose to remand him in custody until he has been accepted in a residential rehabilitation programme.
Inspector Nezrin Grixti prosecuted while Dr Edward Gatt appeared for the accused.
