After last Tuesday’s controversial white hot programme dealing with ‘Dar Malta’ in Brussels, next week’s edition of Bondiplus will take a lighter turn with a social and human interest topic on the agenda.

All the world was shocked and appalled with the Beslan massacre and the plight of its victims but who would be ready to virtually adopt four of those children and care for them?

Lou Bondi’ will be interviewing the Meli family from Marsa who accepted four Russian children to live with them for a period of time to try and help them get over the traumas they have suffered in their turbulent young lives.

Igor, Nadia, Peter and Dmitri had been abandoned by their parents who used to argue and fight in front of the children’s eyes. The four siblings were eventually taken to an institute and raised as orphans.

Each of the children has their own personal story to tell and it makes for a heart rending experience. Nadia is 16 years old and is still coming to terms with the fact that her mother died. She hopes to re-unite her brothers back into a proper family.

Peter is a year younger and he harbours feelings of anger and resentment against his father for treating his now deceased mother so cruelly. He wishes to come to Malta and settle here. Dmitri is 13 years old and has already amstered the Maltese language. He wishes to leave all memory of his native land behind and stay in Malta as he now feels more Maltese than Russian.

Although these children have passed through virtual hell, they have found the Meli family from Marsa who took them under their wing and are now trying to adopt Dmitri while doing their utmost to assist his other siblings.
