Preliminary investigations indicated that the 21-year-old lost control of her Isuzu Gemini as she was driving along Garibaldi Street in Luqa at around 7.15am yesterday. The car mounted the centre strip and crashed into a tree.

An ambulance took the woman to hospital where she was certified to be in a critical condition.

Another traffic accident took place at around 6.30am in Dun Karm Psaila Street, Msida, when a 21-year-old man crashed into a pole after losing control of his Volkswagen Golf.

Another three cars were involved in the crash when the drivers tried to avoid the crashed Golf, but no one was injured in this accident.
