A wedding on the ocean wave

Malta Independent Monday, 18 October 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The wedding ceremony was held at the Chapel of Hearts of the MV Star Princess. The marriage officer was the Captain & Master Giorgio Pomata,

from Sardegna; the witnesses were

Ms Rebecca Cheung and Ms Jeanine Viljoen.

The Attard Montaltos daughter Rebecca, who is eight years old, was flower

girl.

John’s late parents were Josie Attard Montalto, Baron of San Paolino and Mrs Miriam Despott. Mrs Despott’s family originated from Greece. The Despotts were involved in shipping.

The bride is the daughter of Mr Joe Farrugia and Mrs Margaret Farrugia Borg.

When asked why they had got married on a cruise liner, she commented: “I always dreamed of getting married at sea.” The bridegroom, on the other hand said that it was impossible to hold a reception on land. “It was extremely difficult to find a venue because of the number of people I would have loved to invite.”

Although their daughter Rebecca is eight years old, the Attard Montaltos never found the right time to get married because of Dr Attard Montalto’s political career and busy law practice.

The Attard Montaltos are presently on their honeymoon.

• The myriad details of the wedding ceremony in the Chapel of Hearts and the reception on the Star Princess were arranged from Malta by the agents of the cruise liner Messrs Thomas Smith & Co. Ltd. of Valletta.
